Now on defense their secondary in pass coverage was weak and couldn't get off the field on 3rd. Made no red zone stops. Their pass protection wasn't effective and they gave up 1st downs. Now they had trouble converting on 3rd down(1 for 3). On defense their secondary defended the pass well by swatting balls down and got off the field when facing 3rd. Contested Recivers too. Defensively, their secondary did excellent in pass coverage and they stopped 3rd downs. Created a few turnovers as well. As for the run they allowed yards but their per carry total was low. Too bad they had difficult time making 3rd and 4th down stops. They let the chains advance and their pass rush wasn't as effective. Defending red zone and goal to goal situations proved to be even tougher. Down the stretch this defense made critical stops and the offense kept the ball moving. Notre Dame faces Ohio State in the National Championship, tallied 383 yards of total offense and bounced up to a 14-1 record.

Penn State suffered a 24-27 loss to Notre Dame. The Nittany Lions were denied of advancing to the National Championship and they've been eliminated from the College Football Playoffs. In the 1st quarter Wheatley picked off Leonard for the games first turnover. For the running backs they found space off quality blocking and exploited open gaps for big yardage. They did well 4th down and moved the sticks. No turnovers and their pass protection was solid. Too bad Allar 's completion percentage(4 for 10) wasn't great. Executed in the red zone and in goal to goal. Weren't good on 3rd unfortunately. Their secondary did excellent in pass coverage by contesting Recivers and batting balls away. Stopped the run by plugging gaps and they created a takeaway. Shutdown 3rd and limited chain movement. Allowed 0 red zone and goal to goal trips. Pass rush needs to be better though. Pushing to the 2nd quarter Barker buried a 20-yard field goal, 3-0. Were excellent on chain movement and their pass protection was good. Ran the ball extremely well due to excellent blocking and they did solid on 4th. Although, their QB threw for low yardage(4). On defense their secondary had trouble defending passes and couldn't stop the chains from moving. Getting off the field on 3rd was a struggle and protecting the red zone was rough. No turnovers created ethier. Now their pass rush got only 1 sack but they did the next best thing which was force QB knock downs or hurries. Luckily they took away goal to goal and restricted the run. Penn State was 2 for 2 on 4th, ran for 140 while averaging 5.4 in yards per carry and they entered halftime leading 10-3. Now they did a quality job when entering red zone territory and capitalized in goal to goal. They moved the sticks and converted on 4th. Not to mention they ran the ball fluently due solid blocking. For the defense their secondary had trouble in pass coverage and at times they let passes get behind them. They let the chains move and couldn't get off the field on 3rd. Did even worse when protecting red zone and goal to goal situations. Don't forget containing the run was difficult. Luckily they generated a turnover and their pass rush got to the QB for 4 sacks. Simply controlled the line of scrimmage. Look, for the offense they couldn't capitalize late and their defense wasn't making stops down the stretch. Were pretty good at capitalizing on 3rd and 4th down. Were effecient in red zone territory as well. Too bad they lost the turnover battle and their pass protection was terrible. Don't forget they rushed the ball poorly due to bad blocking. Defensively, they allowed chain movement and their secondary lacked in pass coverage. However, they were even worse when entering red zone territory and turned it over a couple of times. Took too many penalties and they never entered goal to goal. Pass protection slacked and they couldn't convert in 4th. On defense their secondary simply disrupted the Quarterback's pocket presence and limited his passes. They did get beat a few times going deep though. On the flip side they got torched on the run and making 3rd down stops was tough. They created a turnover and allowed 0 goal to goal entries. Their pass rush was extremely dominant by sacking the QB 4 times and kept the Nittany Lions out of goal to goal situations. Boise State went 0 for 1 on 4th while turning it over 4 times, tallied 2.7 in yards per carry and fell to a 12-2 record.

For the defense they stopped the run by plugging gaps and kept Boise State out of red zone territory. Allowed 0 goal to goal entries and denied chain movement. Not to mention their pass rush got only 1 sack but they did the next best thing which was force QB knockdowns or hurries. Now their secondary did struggle a bit in pass coverage. Switching to the 2nd quarter Barker with no time left drianed a 40-yard field goal, 17-7. By the way this defense is doing a nice job of containing Running back Ashton Jeanty. Taking away his holes and stuffing him at time in the backfield. Penn State through two tallied 4 first downs while going 1 for 6 on 3rd and turned it over 0 times. Quarterback threw for 69 yards and they ran for 12. No red zone or goal to goal entries. Penn State was avagerging 3.7 in yards per carry, turned it over once and entered halftime with a 17-7 lead. So midway into the 3rd quarter Penn State extended their lead after Allar completed a 13-yard passing touchdown to Warren, 24-14. Only good thing going for Penn State in this quarter was their rushing attack and their goal to goal efficiency. The Nittany Lions ended quarter 3 by picking up 4 first downs and went 1 for 2 on 3rd. Allar passed for 18 yards and they rushed for 50. Were 1 for 1 in the red zone with no goal to goal trips. 0 turnovers to go along. For the Quarterback he had a bad completion percentage and threw for low yardage. Defense let the sticks move and their secondary had trouble in pass coverage. Had slight issues getting off the field on 3rd down as well. For the run they allowed a bunch of yards but their per carry total was weak. Luckily they made stops on 4th and shutdown red zone trips. They generated turnovers and no goal to goals were given up. Pass rush got to the QB for 3 sacks as well. Monday January 2nd, 2023: Penn State in a thrilling 2nd half knocks off Utah 35-21 in the 109th Rose Bowl game. This is helps Penn State win their second Rose Bowl in program history and first since 1995. In the 1st quarter Sean Clifford on 3rd and 7 would dart a 28 yard pass completion to Johnson and set Penn State up at the Utah 13 yard line. Few plays later Singleton would rush into the end zone for a 5 yard touchdown, 7-0. This drive went 11 plays for 77 yards. Penn State through one picked up 5 first downs with 2 coming on the pass and went 3 for 5 on 3rd. Including 41 yards rushing with 3 forst downs added and were 1 for 1 in the red area. Penn State early moved the chains well and executed on 3rd down with solid red zone efficiency. They got their pass/run ratio clicking as Clifford did most of his damage through the middle of the field and their rushers found space to go through off solid blocking. Then during the 2nd quarter Penn State would get setup in red zone territory after Clifford beamed a 20 pass completion to Wallace. One play later Clifford would deliver a 10 yard touchdown strike to Tinsley, thus going up 14-7. The Nittany Lions ended the 2nd by going 2 for 3 on 3rd with 1 first down added and Clifford threw for 75 yards. Penn State this time around were struggling to strech the sticks but executed well on 3rd down due to a couple pass plays going 30 plus yards and remained efficient inside the red zone. As for Clifford he did agreat job of making quick deliveries from inside the pocket and when out of it. Clifford is simply hammering Utah on mini crossing routes through the middle of the field. Penn State secured 191 yards of total offense, were 2 for 2 in the red area and entered halftime tied at 14-14. Entering the halfway mark of the 3rd quarter Singgletome would break loose for a huge 87 yard rushing touchdown, 21-14. This score was setup on a Barnes interception. Penn State concluded the 3rd quarter went 2 for 3 on 3rd while adding 0 first downs and their backs ran for 97 yards. That also includes 96 yards passing. Keep note that the 0 first downs werent hurting Penn State because most of their plays weather it was on the pass or on run went for 80 yards or more. Penn State hammered Utah when utilizing the run up the middle and Clifford did damage by delivering quick strikes to his playmaking Recivers who gained quality after the catch. Now in the midway point of the 4th quarter Clifford would dart an 88 yard touchdown pass to Lambert and extended their lead to 28-14. Afterwards, with 10:36 left Penn State would cap off a 5 play drive with Clifford finding Allen for a 1 yard touchdown, 35-14. Penn State in the 4th secured 3 first downs and went 0 for 2 on 3rd with Clifford throwing for 37 yards. Along with 29 yards on the ground. Penn State piled in 14 first downs with 9 coming in the air and went 7 of 13 on 3rd and 3 for 3 in the red zone. They tacked on 183 yards rushing with 5 first downs. Throughout the entire 2nd half the Nittany Lions moved the sticks at a high rate and converted well on 3rd down and inside the red zone. Penn State also attacked Utah in the air and on the ground off great blocking/protection. The Nittaby Lions found open lanes to run through while following thier blocks and Clifford simply got the ball out quick with most of his passes going deep and towards the sidelines for big gains. Clifford threw 2 touchdowns on 279 yards passing, went 2 for 2 in goal to goal and improved to an 11-2 record.

Utah in the Rose Bowl game suffered a tough 21-35 loss to Penn State. This forced Utah to now lose back to back Rose Bowls in a row and dropped to their third defeat of the season. Utah's first possession of the 1st quarter would end in a three and out after Rising's pass to Vele fell incomplete on a 3rd and 8 situation. Utah capped off quarter 1 by securing 3 first downs with 2 coming on the ground and were 0 for 1 on 3rd. Along with Cam Rising throwing for 11 yards and snagged 1 first down when utilizing the run. Utah moving forward has to better at moving the chains and needs to execute on 3rd and when getting into the red zone because they made 0 entries in the early goings of this matchup. They've also struggled on both the run and pass due to Rising being unable to read the field and overthrowing his targets while their rushers coulsnt find any running room due to poor blocking. A quarter later during the 2nd Cam Rising on a play fake would roll out the pocket and delivered a 1 yard touchdown strike to Yassmin, 7-7 and this score was setup on a Clifford pick. This drive lasted 13 plays for 57 yards and they controlled the ball for 7:12. Keep note that this scoring drive had to go under reviews on if Yassmin maintained ball control once hitting the ground. He did. On Utah's next possession with 2:38 left Jackson on 3rd and 1 would utilize a spin move and then a burst of speed into the end zone e for a 1 yard score, 14-14. Utah hauled in 3 first downs while going 3 for 4 on 3rd and Cam Rising threw for 68 yards. Including 24 yard on the the ground. The Utes did much better in 3rd down situations and moved the sticks effectively with solid red zone execution. However, they've had issues running the ball due to poor blocking and no holes are opening up. Cam Rising on the other hand has had problems delivering intermediate routes but is moving the offense down the field when throwing it deep. Utah were a total 4 for 7 on 3rd, gained 200 yards of total offense and were knotted at 14-14 entering halftime. Now in the 3rd quarter Utah's first possession would end with Rising delivering an incomplete pass to Vele on 3rd and 19. Thus bringing out the punting unit. Utah in three pulled in 6 first downs and went 4 for 6 on 3rd with 1 interception and 2 sacks. I also want to add in that starting Quarterback Cam Rising left this game with a knee injury and it thrusted in backup Bryson Barnes. Utah continued to win first down battles and kept drives alive when facing a 3rd down situation but made 0 red zone trips with multiple sacks applied. Utah managed to get their run gane churning as well due rushers finding open lanes to zip through and were getting the blocks that they need. Now shifting into the late stages of the 4th quarter Utah would finally find the end zone after Barnes spotted Dixon for a 5 yard touchdown, 21-35. Utah tallied in 6 first downs and went 4 for 7 on 3rd while getting outscored 14-7. Utah wrapped their night up by gaining 23 first downs with 12 coming on the rush and finished 9 of 16 on 3rd and 3 for 3 inside the red zone. That'll also include 184 yards rushing. The Utes managed to move the ball well on both sides as rushers followed blocks for quality yards and between both Quarterback's they completed most of their passes through the middle of the field but what stalled most of their drives was careless turnovers and took to many sacks. Utah raked in 391 yards of total offense, went 2 for 2 in goal to goal and fell to a 10-4 record.

Saturday December 31st, 2022: Michigan suffers a demoralizing 45-51 loss when going against TCU. This gives the Wolverines their first loss of the 2022-2023 season and are 0-2 in the CFP(College Football Playoffs). In the 1st quarter Edward's up the middle broke free for a 53 yard gain and it set Michigan up at the 15 yard line. Unfortunately, this 11 play drive ended on 4th on and goal after Loveland on a trick run play was tackled by a TCU defender behind the line of scrimmage for -8 yards. Michigan in the 1st picked up 4 first downs with 3 coming in the air and went 1 for 3 on 3rd. Including 67 yards rushing. Michigan moving forward has to do better on both 1st and 3rd down and execute in the red area. Michigan  has done some damage on the run due to good blocking but hasn't picked up many first downs. Their starting Quarterback J.J. McCarthy he's made some good passes but threw 1 pick and had trouble reading the field. Then dueing the 2nd quarter Moody with 5 ticks left would bury a 28 yard field goal, 6-21. Michigan through two picked up 4 first downs and went 0 for 2 on 3rd with 6 yards rushing. The Wolverines continued to struggled on 1st and 3rd down as they couldn't move the ball and weren't effective enough inside the red zone. They have stay on the field longer if they want to keep drives alive. Michigan also had issues running and passing the ball as lanes weren't being opened up and McCarthy hasn't been able to read the field. Not everything is on McCartney....because his Recivers are dropping balls and aren't providing enough speration. As well as McCarthy throwing for 198 yards. Offensively Michigan this time around moved the markers much better and were efficient when facing a 3rd down situation but McCarthy needs to calm down at times because he's stalling drives with careless turnovers. Other than the turns McCarthy is getting the ball out fast and is attacking TCU deep. In the 4th quarter Michigan would make this more of a game after McCarthy spotted Wilson for a 5 yard touchdown, 45-51. Speaking of Recivers they've been able to create speration from their defenders and gained quality yards after the catch. As for their ground game they've hammered the Wolverines due to the kine prividing lanes and are averaging 6 plus yards per carry. Defensively they done a solid job of defending passes through the middle of the field with 2 turnivers forced and applied pressure on McCartney by utilizing 1 sack and disrupted most of his throws. Max Duggan was able to maneuver around in the pocket to buy time and delivered quick strikes to his Recivers who made  contested catches when going towards the sidelines. As for their run gane that I mentioned....well they simply hammered Michigan in yards per carry and zipped their way through open holes that the line created.  In the end, during the late stages of the 4th quarter Duggan would deliver a 24 yard dart to Johnston who took it 76 yards after the catch, 48-38.
