Monday January 20th, 2025: Notre Dame suffered a heartbreaking 23-34 loss facing Ohio State. The Fighting Irish 15-Game win streak ended and it's back to drawing board for next year. In the 1st quarter on 4th and 1 Riley Leonard picked up a 3-yard gain. Few plays later Leonard scampered into the end zone for a 1-yard rushing touchdown, 7-0. This drive took 18 plays for 75 yards and they controlled the ball for 9:45. Notre Dame in one secured 6 first downs and went 2 for 4 on 3rd. Leonard threw for 31 yards and they rushed for 44. 1 for 1 in the red zone and 1 for 1 in goal to goal. So far Notre Dame is doing a nice job of moving the chains and ran the ball effectively due to good blocking. Executed in the red zone and in goal to goal. No turnovers and their pass protection was solid. Were good on 4th down too. For the Quarterback he had a good completion percentage but threw for low yardage. For the defense their secondary kept the pass low. Also they kept Ohio State out of goal to goal and red zone territory. Denied chain movement as well. Now their pass rush wasn't effective and they created no turnovers. Now they kept rushing yards low but their per carry total was still solid. During the 2nd quarter on 3rd down a Notre Dame player wasn't paying attention to the snap and the ball bounced off his hands for a fumble but luckily a teammate recovered it. This of course forced a punt. Keep note Notre Dame suffered their second straight three and out drive. The Fighting Irish ended quarter 2 by snagging 0 first downs while going 0 for 1 on 3rd. Leonard threw for 15 yards and they ran for 2. No red zone or goal to goal appearances. Notre Dame was 2 of 6 on 3rd down while going 2 for 2 on 4th, averaged 2.9 in yards per carry on 47 rushing and they entered halftime behind 7-21. Pushing to the midway point of the 3rd quarter Leonard fired a 34-yard passing touchdown to Greathouse and they converted the 2-point try, 15-31. Notre Dame through three secured 4 first downs and went 2 for 2 on 3rd. Leonard threw for 56 yards and they ran for 15. No red zone or goal to goal trips. Shifting to the 4th quarter on 4th and 5 Leonard completed an 11-yard pass completion. Too bad this 12 play drive ended with Jeter missing a 27-yard field goal and the score stayed the same. On the next possession Leonard threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Greathouse and they converted the 2-point try, 23-31. Notre Dame in four tallied 3 first downs and went 1 for 2 on 3rd. Leonard passed for 133 yards and they rushed for 2. 0 for 1 in the red zone with no goal to goal trips. Notre Dame earned 20 first downs while going 5 of 12 on 3rd. Were 1 for 2 in the red zone and 1 for 2 in goal to goal. Leonard completed most of their passes over the middle, toward the sidelines or at times went deep down field. Also due to following blocks it allowed their rushers to exploit gaps for chunk yards. Advanced the sticks and executed on 4th. No giveaways and they capitalized on 3rd. Now their pass protection in the 2nd half struggled. For the defense their secondary had problems in pass coverage and stopping the run was tough. They let the sticks advance and couldn't protect red zone territory. Poor goal to goal defence and their pass rush was non existent. Making 3rd down stops was difficult. Notre Dame had 308 yards of total offense while going 3 of 4 on 4th, had 0 turnovers and they fell to a 14-2 record.
Ohio State knocked off Notre Dame 34-23. The Buckeyes win their first National Championship since 2014 and they secured their 4th straight Victory. By the way this is Ohio State's 9th National Championship in program history. Ohio State through one tallied 4 first downs and went 2 for 2 on 3rd. Howard passed for 38 yards and they ran for 24. 0 for 1 in the red zone with no goal to goal trips. 0 turnovers too. So shifting to quarter 2 Will Howard threw an 8-yatd touchdown pass to Smith, 7-7. This drive lasted 11 plays for 75 yards and they possessed the ball 6:05. Next drive in 3rd and 2 Will Howard gained 3-yard gain for fresh set of downs. A play later Judkins went into the end zone for a 9-yard rushing touchdown, 14-7. This drive went 10 plays for 76 yards and they controlled the ball for 6:06. A drive later Howard delivered a 6-yard touchdown pass to Judkins, 21-7. Ohio State in two gained 9 first downs and went 4 for 4 on 3rd down. Howard passed for 91 yards and they earned 77 in the ground. Were 1 for 1 in the red zone and 1 for 1 in goal to goal. . Ohio State continued to exploit Notre Dame's defense by spotting open holes on the run while Will Howard is going through his reads and getting the ball out through the middle of the field or towards the sideline. Offense is simply controlling the line of scrimmage and they executed in the red area. They moved the sticks and their pass protection was good. Capitalized in the red zone and ate clock. 0 turnovers to go along. On defense their secondary in pass coverage found ways to keep all throws in front of them and got the offense off the field when facing 3rd down. Took away chain movement as well. Don't forget they kept Notre Dame out of red zone and goal to goal situations. Ohio State 6 of 6 on 3rd down, Howard was 14 of 15 for 144 and they went into halftime leading 21-7. Switching to the 3rd quarter Judkins found a hole and broke free a huge 70-yard run. Three plays later Judkins rushed into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown run, 28-7. Few possessions later Fielding made a 46-yard field goal, 31-7. Ohio State in three had 4 first downs and went 2 for 3 on 3rd. QB passed for 7 yards and they ran for 96. 1 for 1 in the red zone and 1 for 1 in goal to goal. They ran the fluently due to excellent blocking and kept turnovers low. Executed in the red zone and in goal to goal. Pass protection was exceptional and they executed in 3rd. Now they had trouble moving the sticks. In quarter 4 Egbuka fumbled the ball and Notre Dame recovered it. On a new possession on 3rd and 11 Howard threw a 56-yard pass completion to Smith. After that, Fielding drianed a 33-yard field goal, 34-23. Ohio State capped off quarter 4 by acquiring 2 first downs and went 1 for 2 on 3rd. Howard had 56 yards passing and they picked up 18 on the ground. 1 for 1 in the red zone with no goal to goal trips. Ohio State had 22 first downs with 11 coming on the run and they ran for 214. Finished 9 of 12 on 3rd. Were 6 for 6 in the red zone and 3 for 3 in goal to goal. 0 turnovers and Howard passed for 231. Buckeyes pass/run ratio was effective as they got the ground game going due to holes being opened and their pass attack was solid. Remember their QB's completed passes across the middle, close to the sideline or deep downfield. They moved the chains and their pass protection was stellar as well. Did well in the red zone and in goal to goal. Although, they had 1 turnover throughout the game. Firstly, for the defense their secondary had trouble in pass coverage. Getting off the field on 3rd and 4th down was tough as well. They let the sticks move and their pass rush was effective. They got 2 sacks while forcing knockdowns and hurries. Ohio State tallied 5.2 in yards per carry, earned 445 yards of total offense and they improved to a 14-2 record.

Monday January 8th, 2024: Washington against Michigan took a heartbreaking 13-34 loss. The Huskies had a lot of miscues weather it was Michael Penix overthrowing Receivers and dropping passes. Washington in the 1st ended a 14 play drive with Gross drilling a 25 yard field goal, 3-7. The Huskies in one picked up 4 1st downs while going 2 for 4 on 3rd and rushed for 31 yards. That includes Penix completing 5 passes on 8 attempts for 43 yards and turned the ball over 0 times. Washington were having a tough time trying to move the sticks and struggled on 3rd down. As far as the passing game went Penix had some completions toward the sideline with good pass protection. Also executed in the red zone. Unfortunately, their running game couldn't get going because Michigan's defense did a nice job of plugging gaps. No goal to goal appearances ethier. Shifting to the midway point of the 2nd quarter Washington would come within seven after Penix fired a 3 yard touchdown pass to McMillian, 10-17. This drive lasted 11 plays for 46 yards and controlled the ball for 4:01. Penix in the 2nd threw for 85 yards while rushing for 14 and securing 6 first downs. Went 0 for 3 on 3rd and 1 for 1 in both the red zone and in goal to goal. Including 1 sack allowed and were 1 of 2 on 4th. Washington moved the chains effectively and were more effecient in the red zone. Earned a goal to goal trip and giveaways were limited. Let's not forget the Huskies pass protection gave their QB time in the pocket. Speaking of Penix...he delivered quality passes going over the middle or close to the sideline and his Receivers did tremendous job of creating separation. Too bad they couldn't generate their ground game due to poor run protection and the defense stuffing gaps. Had problems on 4th down too. Washington was 2 for 2 in the red zone/goal to goal area, as a team they were 2 for 7 on 3rd down and went into the half down 10-17. Now in the 3rd quarter in 3rd and 8 Penix completed a 4 yard throw to Westover but he was tackled short of the markers by Stewart. This of course set up a Gross 45 yard field goal, 13-20. Washington closed out the 3rd by adding 3 first downs and were 0 of 2 on 3rd while running for 9 yards. Penix also went 6 of 13 for 54 yards. So Penix dotted his Receivers with intermediate passes across the middle and at the sideline. To make matters worse they couldn't make entries in the red zone or in goal to goal and advanced the sticks terribly. Couldn't execute on 3rd and turned it over once off a Penix interception. Then on you got the run game being in-effective due to Michigan's defense taking away open lanes. At least their pass protection held up well. The Huskies threw for 68 yards while picking up 1 first downs and finished 0 for 3 on 3rd. Rushed for 5 with no red zone or goal to goal trips made. Washington kept running the ball with effectiveness but werent quiet in sync when it came to moving the chains and 3rd down converting was bad. Penix passed for 255 yards, got outscored 14-0 in the 4th and dropped off to a 14-1 record.
Michigan in the National Championship knocked off Washington 34-13. This is the Wolverines first National title since 1997 and they finished undefeated. In the 1st quarter Michigan would cap off an 8 play drive after Edwards rushed for a 41 yard touchdown this going up 7-0. The Wolverines through one gained 8 first downs and went 0 for 0 on 3rd while running for 174 yards and McCarthy threw for 55. 1 for 1 in the red zone and 0 turnovers. Michigan was on fire to kick this one off. They got their pass/run ratio clicking as McCarthy completed some of his passes over the mille or on the outside and their rushers exposed open gaps for positive yardage. Not to mention the Wolverines moved the sticks effectively. Guys, they didn't face not one 3rd down this entire quarter. They also capitalized in the red zone and despite giving up a sack the pass protection was pretty solid. No goal to goal trips though. In the 2nd quarter on 3rd and 8 Edwards took off to the Washington 38 yard line for a 6 yard gain. A play later on 4th and 3 McCarthy's pass to Roman Wilson would fall incomplete. McCarthy passed for only 26 yards and ran for 29 while going 0 for 4 on 3rd down. Michigan slowed down a little bit in this quarter. The Wolverines were unable to move the sticks and showed no execution on 3rd down. Insufficient on 4th as well. To make matters worse they couldn't enter the red zone or goal to goal and their run game was lacking due to the defense closing off open holes. By the way McCarthy had some struggles completing passes because he didn't throw for many yards. At least they didn't commit any turnovers and pass protection was sharp. Michigan as a whole team rushed for 209 yards while averaging 12.3 per carry, tallied 290 yards of total offense and entered halftime with a 17-10 lead. Going to the halfway mark of the 3rd quarter a Washington turnover led to a Turner 38 yard field goal, 20-10. The Wolverines in quarter 3 snagged 3 first downs with 30 passing yards and went 1 for 3 on 3rd. Were 1 for 1 in the red zone and ran for 64. Michigan were still moving the sticks poorly and continued their problems on 3rd down. Along with no goal to goal trips. Now for the passing game McCarthy had trouble reading the field as the defense pressured him enough to force incomplete passes. Although, they did well in red zone territory and the pass protection kept their QB's pocket clean. No turnovers ethier and thanks to excellent blocking it allowed their rushers to exploit open space for chunk yards. Michigan wrapped up the 4th by placing 2 first downs and went 0 for 1 on 3rd. Ran for 31 while being 1 of 1 in the red zone/goal to goal area and threw for 53. Michigan didn't move the markers all that well and didn't execute on third. Weren't running it too well in this quarter due to clogged lanes yet they did great in the red zone and in goal to goal. So the teams as a whole moved the markers just not as efficiently. Executed in the red zone and in goal to goal. Now the negatives of this game was poor 3rd and 4th down converting. Also both Quarterbacks made solid pass completions over the middle or outside. At times went deep. With that being said.....they each had solid pass protection. Luckily for Michigan they scored more times, ran the ball extremely well due to effective blocking and won kept turnovers to a minimum. Defensively, they both were struggling to protect the red zone and goal to goal. Pass rush had their fair share of issues too. Ultimately though, they got off the field on 3rd and 4th down. Their pass rush got pressure but barely forced sacks. Michigan's defense shutdown the run and forced two critical turns. As for Washington at least their secondary in pass coverage kept everything in front of them. McCarthy threw for 140 yards, Corum rushed for 134 while adding 2 touchdowns and improved to a 15-0 record.

The Bulldogs moved the chains well and kept possesssoons alive when faced with a 3rd down situation. They were still very much dominate in the red area to. Bennett got time in the pocket and delivered quick strikes through the middle of the field to his playmaking Recivers who gained quality yards after the catch. His Recivers are simply doing a nice job of creating separation by running crisp routes. In the end, during the 4th quarter Robinson would run up the middle for a 1 yard touchdown, 59-7. This drive lasted 9 plays for 54 yards and possessed the ball for 4:49. Georgia in the 4th packed in 5 first downs while outscoring TCU 13-0 and went 2 for 4 on 3rd. They ran for 66 yards as well. Also ate a ton of clock because most drives were time consuming. As for their defense they did their part by disrupting Duggan's pocket presence and forced 2 2nd half sacks and held TCU under 40 yards rushing. Georgia earned 589 yards of total offense, recorded 9 total touchdowns and improved to a 15-0 record.
TCU get's blown out the building after going down 7-65 against Georgia. This hands TCU their second loss of the year and are 0-1 in the National Championship. Three plays later Duggan on a red option would get into the end zone for a 2 yard touchdown run, 7-10. The Horned Frogs through one secured 5 first downs with 2 coming in the air and went 1 for 3 on 3rd. They rushed 20 yards on 2 first downs as well. TCU's offense struggled to run the ball due to poor blocking and couldn't keep drives alive because they were put in 3rd and long situations but did damage through the air as Duggan worked deep downfield and capitalized in the red area. TCU's first possession of the 3rd quarter ended with Duggan getting picked off by Bulard and this ended a short 4 play drive. TCU capped off quarter 2 by secured 0 first downs while getting getting outscored 21-0 and went 0 for 2 on 3rd. They ran for 4 yards and Duggan threw for 10. TCU struggling on both 1st and 3rd down and kept turning the ball over. You can't throw picks against a Georgia team like this and expect to win. Also had 0 red zone trips which has to change going forward. TCU can't rush the ball as well due to the lack of run protection and Duggan is having issues reading the field. TCU ran for 24 yards, secured 1 red zone trip and slipped into halftime facing a 7-38 deficit. Heading into the late stages of the 3rd quarter TCU would be forced into a turnover on downs after Duggan on 4th and 11 had his pass fall incomplete when trying to hook up with Henderson. TCU sealed off the 3rd quarter by gaining 3 first downs and went 1 for 4 on 3rd with 1 three and out drive. That'll also include 13 yards rushing and Duggan threw for 40. TCU at this point of the game were flat on both ends of the ball. They rarely moved the football past the 50 yard line and there pass/run ratio was shutdown. Duggan's pocket is being disrupted which forces him to overthrow his target and their running backs can't find any running room. Another issue that TCU was having was that they couldnt enter red zone territory and performed poorly on both 1st and 3rd down. Now in the 4th quarter TCU was forced into a turnover on downs after Max Duggan on 4th and 6 got sacked by Walker for -10 yards. Lack of 3rd down converting and poor red zone performance is what cost them in this game. TCU went 0 for 0 in goal to goal, Duggan threw 2 interceptions on 254 yards passing and dipped down to a 13-2 record.

Monday, January 10th 2022: Defending Champs no more....as Alabama sustained an 18-33 loss to Georgia. This defeat denied the Crimson Tied from winning their 4th consecutive National Championship in straight appearances. Alabama got some early points midway through the 1st quarter after a Reichard 37 yard field goal, 3-0. This drive lasted 14 plays for 56 yards. Then during the midway point of the 2nd quarter, you'd catch Bryce Young delivering a pass to Latu on a crossing route and broke for a huge 61 yard gain. Unfortunately this drive would be stalled after Bryce Young got sacked by Tindell. As this possession ended with a Reichard 37 yard field goal, 9-3. Bama converted just 3 3rd downs on 10 attempts, tallied 216 yards of total offense and entered halftime up 9-6. Next, Alabama during the 3rd quarter tried to extend their lead by 6 points....but a Reichard 48 yard field goal would get blocked by Carter and it allowed Cine to recover the loose football. As this score remained a 9-6 Bama lead. However, Alabama's defense would force a critical turnover early in the 4th....as Bennett suffered a strip sack while trying to throw the ball away. But instead the ball bounced off the ground and landed in the hands of Branch, who was able to keep one foot in bounds. Keep note to that the booth had to review on if Bennett's hand was going forward or on if it was a fumble. Eventually, that turnover would turn into 6, after Young zipped a 3 yard touchdown pass to Latu. 18-13. Bama falls to a 9-4 Playoff record, outscored 20-9 in the 4th and staggered down to a 13-2 win/loss record.
Ringo's 21 yard pick six off Bryce Young late in the 4th led the Georigia Bulldogs to a 33-18 Victory. This win helps Georgia earn their 3rd National Championship in program history and first one since 1980. Along with winning their 14th game of the year. Now Georgia's offense late in the 1st quarter had moved the chains in a big way, as Bennett delivered a 52 yard pass completion to Pickens and it set the Bulldogs up at the Alabama 29 yard line. It's just unfortunate that this 11 play drive would end with a Podlesny 24 yard field goal. Which tied this game at 3-3 during the 2nd. Thereafter, Georgia with over 3 minutes left in the 2nd quarter would climb inside three points after a Podlesny 49 yard field goal and made this National Championship game 6-9. The Dawgs picked up 7 1st downs, finished 3 of 8 on 3rd down and walked into halftime facing a 6-9 three point deficit. Come the 3rd quarter and Georgia's defense would come up with a big turnover.
